Five things to check before buying earbuds
The best-sounding earbuds on paper may be the wrong pair if they are uncomfortable or difficult to use with your devices.
Fit comes before the feature list
Ear shape varies. Look at tip sizes, product dimensions, return terms and the fit options for the model you want. Poor fit can affect comfort and isolation. Decide where you will wear the earbuds: the office, a commute, walks or workouts all favor different trade-offs.
Compare noise features carefully
Active noise cancellation, transparency mode and passive seal are related but different. ANC can help with certain repetitive background noise; it is not a promise to eliminate all sound. Microphone performance, controls and switching between devices matter if you regularly take calls.
Check ecosystem and total ownership
Consider compatibility with your phone, laptop, charging cable and any platform-specific features. Replacement ear tips, battery aging, repairability and warranty may affect long-term value. Apple AirPods Pro 3 are one premium comparison point for compatible devices, but compare alternatives according to your actual priorities instead of choosing from popularity alone.
